The Nation of Brunei 🇧🇳 is one of the smallest country in the world! It is also one of the wealthiest country too 🤑. Not only that! It is a Muslim country, a monarchy and part of the Commonwealth too! Totally surrounded by Malaysia 🇲🇾, you can drive from Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) to reach Brunei or fly from South East Asian airports like Kuala Lumpur (for example) to get there. Interested in visiting Brunei? Continue to read! 😊👍🏻
#1 Visit the Mosques
You must start with the ‘Omar Ali Saifuddien’ Mosque. Its name comes from the 28th Sultan of Brunei and this mosque is magnificent! 😲 All made of marble, you’ll love the lagoon around it (you’ll actually see a replica of a Royal barge from 16th century there too). Don’t miss it and explore it!
Another mosque to visit is ‘Jame’Asr Hassanil Bolkiah‘ Mosque. Quite impressive too as it is the biggest mosque in Brunei 🇧🇳!
#2 Royal Regalia Museum
You can’t be in Brunei and not visiting this museum. By this, you’ll get to know more about the culture and history of the country but also more about the Sultan himself 👑 😉
The huge and impressive chariot was used in 1992 at the Sultan’s jubilee and more recently for its 50 years anniversary! Read this 👉🏻 http://edition.cnn.com/2017/10/05/asia/brunei-sultan-jubilee-celebration/index.html
#3 Kampong Ayer (Water Village)
Get on a boat (or a taxi boat) 🚤 and enjoy a ride on the Brunei river to explore Kampong Ayer, the Water Village! Around 30,000 people live in those houses and what a view that is! 😍 There used to be most of the population living this way in the past especially since you have everything in the village (schools, police, shops etc). Now lifestyle has changed and people live on the mainland. I am not sure if I would get used to live above water like this! 🤨
#4 Local markets
There are a few local markets in the capital and I highly recommend experiencing them! Especially night markets 🌙 where you can find cheap fruits and have dinner at a very cheap price! Go to Gadong night market and enjoy it with all your senses! 😉
If you are in Malaysia 🇲🇾, especially Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) or even in Kuala Lumpur and fancy a more relaxed and quiet place, then go to Brunei 🇧🇳 for a couple of days. It is VERY quiet and you won’t regret the journey! 😊👍🏻
Here is the official website of Brunei to know more about what’s going on there too 😊 !
Until next time, Go and Explore!
